Genre and Subculture

We have chosen to create a music video based  in the pop/ rock genre. The chosen song for our music video is 'Good Girls' by 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS).

5 Seconds of Summer- Good Girls

A very similar music video to this one is 'Feeling This' by Blink-182. We believe that 5SOS may have been inspired by their video and included intertextuality within their video as one of their influences and favourite band is Blink-182.

Both videos have a prison setting and similar shots, if not the same, to what we see in the music video. The music video contains similar narratives as it is about badly behaved people causing riots in prison and their performance of the band playing the song outside of the prison, is very similar.

Another band that is similar to 5SOS is McBusted. Much like 5SOS McBusted also have a pop/ rock influence to their music. In this particular music video it shows that people who are normally 'good' turn bad and it also has scenes where everyone in the office is causing a riot similarly, in the 5SOS- Good Girls video everyone in the prison is causing a riot.

Another music video that follows a similar narrative to 'Good Girls' is 'Blank Space' by Taylor Swift. At the beginning of the video she is shown to be innocent and is portrayed as a 'good girl' but towards the end of the video she becomes destructive and reveals who she is underneath.
